This is the tutorial which explains how to unlock the bootloader and root the new Nexus 7 device which is also labeled as Nexus 7 2013.
In order to explain simply, I have divided the given below procedure into three steps. The first step will explain how to unlock the Nexus 7 bootloader, the second will explain how to install a custom recovery on new Nexus 7. The third one ultimately gives the step to root your device.
1.Download the Fastboot from here.
3.SuperSU binaries from : download.chainfire.eu/supersu
4.Ensure ADB is installed and configured on your computer.
5.Next install the android USB driver for Nexus 7 on your computer.
6.Then Backup all your internal data’s as this procedure will wipe all your data’s.
7.Finally make sure the battery percentage level of your phone is not less than 80%.

STEP -1: UNLOCKING THE NEXUS 7 2013 BOOTLOADER
1.First extract the fastboot file and place it in the same location where ADB is installed.
2.After that turn on your USB debugging option on your device and connect it to PC with the help of USB cable.
3.Then open a command prompt where you have already placed the fastboot file, and then run the given below command:
adb reboot bootloader
4.Once your Nexus 7 was rebooted into the bootloader mode, run the given below command in command prompt:
fastboot oem unlock
5.Then follow the instructions which appear in online. Once it has been completed, reboot your Nexus 7.
That’s it! Now your device was unlocked.
STEP -2: Installing the TWRP Recovery on Nexus 7 2013:
1.First extract the appropriate recovery.img file for your Nexus 7.
2.Make sure you have placed the recovery file on the same location where you have placed the fastboot. After that again launch the command prompt window.
3.Ensure the USB debugging option is still enabled on your phone and connected with the computer.
4.Launch a command prompt window at the same location where you have placed the recovery.img, and reboot into the bootloader mode using:
adb reboot bootloader
5.Now, run the given below command, it will replace the recovery.img with the actual name of the recovery file:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6.Once the flashing process is complete, reboot your device again.
STEP-3: ROOTING NEXUS 7 2013:
1.Place the SuperSU zip file at the root of your Nexus 7 internal memory/SD card.
2.After that reboot your phone into the recovery using Volume down + Power Button
3.Tap the install option and go to where you placed the SuperSU binary.
4.After that flash the zip file it will take few more minutes.
5.After the flashing process is finished, reboot your Nexus 7.
That’s it! Now, you have successfully unlocked the bootloader of your Nexus 7 2013 (running on Android 4.3 Jellybean) and gained root access into it. Congrats!
