Sony Ends Software Support For Older Xperia Devices

Every phone will get a new life when it update with new firmware, after which it is no longer commercially viable for the company to keep producing updates or the hardware of particular phone not get supported for any updates.

A few days before, Sony confirmed that particular list of its older smartphones “will never receive any software update” in future.

The smartphones that no longer get software upgrade support are anywhere between 18-24 months old only, so people wouldn’t necessarily expect support beyond this time limit.

The list of Xperia devices which never get software update includes:

Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia arc S, Xperia Acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia J, Xperia Go, Xperia U, Xperia Miro, Xperia tipo, Xperia Sola.

We must appreciate the transparency of Sony Mobile over when software support for a phone has ceased. At least it avoids the people who are hoping for an update in the future.

The good news is, if you own anyone of the above-mentioned devices, nothing will stop you to try the custom ROM on that devices.

Now, Sony has begun to update its support page for the above-mentioned devices under the Android version overview, which says “Latest and Final Version” for the phones where software support has ended.

Simultaneously, Sony has confirmed the following Xperia devices which make the Android 4.4 kit kat firmware update: Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia ZL, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia SP.

The other devices such as Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V and Xperia ZR are still under the investigation for the Kit Kat update.
